Muggy, hot days are my favorite time of year. I know I’m in the minority when it comes to this rash declaration. Just as I am thawing out, the Summer season comes to a climax. My pottery was busy with fresh work and the creation of my staple pieces for Fall and holiday Art Markets. Don’t worry, there was plenty of time to sit poolside and take long boat rides. I have become really good at cramming at the last minute before a show.

We welcomed a new batch of chickens this Summer, as well as four ducks, Audrey Hepburn, Loraina Wood, Popcorn, and Mona Lisa. Named after some outstanding women and a food that no one can eat just one morsel of. These little creatures are so adorable that it outweighs the amount of work they entail daily. Who knew a few feather friends would take up so much time? While Auggie is thriving amongst his quilled brothers and sisters, he is still warming up to our farm cat, Ricky. They gallivant together, but only when no one is watching.

Studio updates continue to occur at my old barn. Since July, additional electricity has been installed, along with a generator and a welder. You never know when something will break. I keep putting off the task of staining the remaining windows. It is on my list to get it completed in November. It has been long enough.

Fall markets have allowed me to sell additional items that I had been testing. Since July, I have added oil bottles, ramekin, and salsa bowls. I even ventured out and added a bit of color back into my glazing rotation. This Winter, these items will become regulars on my website. I am creating new flower sprig molds that I plan on using on some large bowl and vase silhouettes. Although these tasks are often time-consuming, I derive the most excitement from them. My creative integrity feels most intact when I complete a form using all of my own designs.

As the weather grows chilly, whether inside or out, you can bet I will be sitting fireside, drawing, glazing, and thinking about promising recipes to try and serve to friends and family this Winter. If you haven’t already, stay caught up on Instagram (@ruchfawn and @river_side_pottery), where I post updates about my website updates and share the places I will be selling at throughout the season.
